Thanks for the reference about "gerund". I never knew this word before even though I use it all the time. Here is a reference supporting your argument, that both are correct usage of gerunds.

I always think it's- boring to give more importance to teach the parts of speech

when it's more important to use the language

The first (that) is a must to understand the sentence without the need to stop and try to figure it out

In the second sentence no need for (that)0

It means (that) you have to follow what sounds better. Here (that) can be taken or left
